At the Hofstad Lyceum in The Hague, much attention is paid to art and culture. That the students are taught in a fresh room is of great importance. That is why this year Teleflex installed nine electric window openers in the art room and in the theater hall. It was an addition to an earlier assignment the company completed for the lyceum.
Teleflex manufactures and supplies manual and electric window controls for residential, government and school buildings. It has been doing this for more than seventy years. Both manual and electric systems are installed in schools. The manual controls are very solid, and the electrical systems are extra easy to operate. Such was the case at the Hofstad Lyceum, says Jesse Verheem, operations manager at Teleflex. "We delivered there four chain openers of type C20 and five of type ACK 4. The windows can now be opened with a Venetian blind switch on the wall and with a radio remote control. This brings the necessary ease of operation, because the windows in the theater hall in particular are so high that you cannot reach them by hand. In the art room, the windows are larger, with a higher weight. An electric control gives more ease of control. With the push of a button, the windows open and close." In addition to a switch and remote control, there is also the option of a Wifibox, so you can control the windows with your phone, tablet or a remote on Wifi.
The reason two types of openers were chosen at the Hofstad Lyceum is that they are different types of windows, i.e., casement windows that open outward and interior casement windows that open inward. Verheem: "The C20 can open to a maximum of 36 cm and the ACK 4 to a maximum of 40 cm, so a little further. The further the window can open, the more this contributes to a healthy indoor climate, creating a more pleasant working and learning environment. The C20 is somewhat more compact and looks attractive in design. The advantage of the ACK 4 is that the chain is made of stainless steel, making it resistant to weather conditions. This is quite handy when the windows open outward and thus can get wet from the rain."
Teleflex performed the entire assembly itself, which has the advantage for the lyceum of a two-year warranty and free service and maintenance. Because the company largely produces the window openers itself and has a large stock, it can always respond quickly and flexibly. Says Verheem, "We have solutions for casement windows, sash windows, skylights, domes and sliding windows. Whether you choose electric or manual operation depends entirely on your preferences."
